The Korea University (KU) Global Leadership Center and Department of Political Science and International Relations opened applications for the 20th College Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, regularly hosted by UN Association of the Republic of Korea (UNAROK). This year’s MUN will include four different conferences, each on the United Nations (UN) sanction system targeted at proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the UN strategy to prevent mass atrocities, sustainable development goals for post-2015, and reformation of the UN Security Council. Two of the conferences will be held in Korean, the other two in English.

All undergraduates of KU were eligible for application, while graduates and students on a leave of absence were disqualified. Meanwhile, all students who have experience at a MUN council as delegates were also disqualified from application. After submitting the appropriate documents and passing the mandatory interview, participants were required to pay the entry fee. A portion of the entry fee was provided by the Global Leadership Center and Department of Political Science and International Relations.

Kim Hyun Jin (’13, Business) expressed his opinions about the event, “This seems really interesting. It seems like a good opportunity for college students to discuss about current issues and practice their presentation abilities.”

Each participating university, including KU, Yonsei University (YU), Kyung Hee University (KHU), was to elect eight delegates and four observing members, with the elected participants forming a team of two. The conference will be held from July 2 to 5, at the Wonju Campus of YU.
