About Us

The Granite Tower, the nation's oldest monthly college magazine written in English, is a major source of news for all segments of the Korea University community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Granite Tower was founded by Young-Bin Min, founder of YBM Si-sa, Korea's largest English education institute, and his colleagues; it was reestablished in 1968 by Ik-Seo Park. The magazine traces its history to the first issue of the newspaper version of The Granite Tower, published in September 1954.

In 1997, The Granite Tower became the first college magazine in Korea to venture into the online world. Over a decade later, http://www.thegranitetower.com continues to provide its readers with timely updates from the magazine free of charge.

The Granite Tower has a rich tradition of journalistic integrity and has produced some of Korea's greatest intellectuals. As a nonprofit corporation, the magazine flourishes on today with a strong body of undergraduate staff volunteers. The Granite Tower is published monthly (excluding vacations).
