Korea University (KU) Museum is exhibiting the modern artworks of Jean-Marie Haessle. This special exhibition was already in place on campus starting from February 25 in the special exhibition room on the first floor of KU Museum. The exhibition will end on May 18.

Jean-Marie Haessle, born in 1939, was originally born in France but later moved to the United States (U.S.), where she spent most of her artistic life. She has worked as a painter for a long time in New York, U.S., but has influences from France, which is very apparent in her paintings. Haessle is part of the abstract expressionism group of New York.

This special exhibition, named ‘The Color of Life’, includes not only her recent works, but also the ones painted after 1980’s which was not exhibited previously in Korea. The paintings with the particular figurative drawing from Haessle’s early works, when compared with the combination of sophisticated colors shown in her recent paintings, emphasizes her growth of expression as an artist.

Posters for ‘The Color of Life’ can easily be seen around campus, especially near the KU Museum, but that may not have been enough for all students to know about this interesting exhibit. “I did not know that there was an exhibition going on at our school,” said Jo Seung Ah (’13, Biotechnology). Jo confessed to not being aware that there was a museum in KU. “The exhibition certainly seems interesting and I am willing to visit,” Jo commented.
