The 27th Social Science Korea (SSK) Human Rights Workshop will be held on this Friday, March 28 from 12:30 to 2:00P.M. Hosted in Room 161 of the Ewha-POSCO building in Ewha Women’s University, the workshop will feature Professor Kim Hyun Mee from the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Yonsei University. This time’s workshop will present detailed insight as well as a general overview on the rights of migrant women and movement for women’s rights in Korea. Lunch will be provided for participants who have requested it by 5pm, March 27.
Jo Haram (’14, Business), stated that, “This seems to be an interesting topic, especially since there are many issues regarding women rights in Korea right now. I think it would be great if the next workshop would be on the rights of sexual minorities including homosexuals, as this is another interesting topic that needs to be addressed in Korea. I hope to take part in the workshop if I have the chance.”
The SSK Forum, host of this workshop, is an inter-university research group that highlights the issues on human rights from the social science perspective. It frequently holds relevant events, including this workshop, available for university students throughout the nation. Meanwhile, the 27th SSK workshop is a continuation of an ongoing series of forums on human rights. The 26th SSK Forum, held on February, was on the right of asylum in Korea for persecuted Afghanistan people, and the 25th SSK Forum was on refugee advocacy.
Further information can be found on the Korea University (KU) portal website or the SSK Forum official website. Applications are still open.
