On March 15, Korea University (KU) posted an announcement on its portal website about possible legal lawsuits against the labor union. With the title “The University’s position about the strike of the branch of Seoul Kyongin Public Service”, the announcement contained information about the illegality and legal liability for the recent strike. The union has been supported by the branch of Seoul Kyongin Public Service, Korea Confederation of Trade Union, for this time. Hence, the university is ascribing the strike to the entire branch of Confederation.

To such response of KU, the Confederation and the laborers are displaying open astonishment and abomination. After ten days of strike, which was March 13, KU gave out its hand and showed its will to negotiate with the labor union. The university promised to level the working environment and salary to those of the Kyunghee University, and eventually the strike came to an end.

Nevertheless, overturning the previous decision, KU posted such a proclamation about the lawsuit. Kim Yoon Soo, the organizational deputy chief of the branch stated,”KU claimed to negotiate with the service company and draw up a formal document within this week. The university had ignored and refused to take part in the discussion for all this time, and now suddenly approaches and threatens us with law.”

The response of KU was, in this regard, surely unexpected and threatening to the labor union. The university newly added the sentence on the announcement of not paying salary for the ten days of strike, following the principle of “No-Work-No-Pay” rule. After the stern orders of the university, the students of KU and the public opinion are now raising their voices to blame the hypocrisy.
