The Research Institute of Korean Studies held a conference on philosophy on the theme 'On Reason' on September 30, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The conference is divided into four parts, each conference lasting for an hour and a half. The titles of the four conferences were “The Davidson Challenge to the Non-casualist”, “Kant and Wittgenstein on Philosophy and A priori Knowledge”, “Reason and the Idea of an Independent Reality” and “Reason in Fichte's Concept of Right”.

With a focus on the Reason and the Idea of an Independent Reality, the lecture focused on antirealist philosophical positions. To specify, reality is shaped by human faculties. The lecturer Carsten Held from the University Erfurt (UE) claimed that through a careful analysis of the realist's independence claim, compatibility can be shown. The professor's presentation was not concentrated on Kant's Transcendental Idealism, even though it was somewhat based on Kant's ideas, but chose a more general approach to the matter. Transcendental Idealism is an idea that states that our common reality is shaped by our reason.

The conference aims to take a step closer analyzing reason to its listeners. It plans to promote more interaction of information between the EU and Korea University (KU). Both KU and the Institute of Philosophy sponsored the conference and wishes for an in depth discussion about philosophy and reason.
