The Anam Hospital has started accepting registration for the vaccine for the prevention of the Uterine Cervical Cancer. This type of cancer occurs the second most in females all over the world and is the fourth common cancer in females of Korea. The Uterine Cervical Cancer is caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), known to be transmitted during sexual intercourse. Fortunately, there is a vaccine for this virus and this injection will prevent women from getting the cancer.

The whole procedure consists of three times of injection with lengthy intervals in between. The second injection is received two months after the first time and the third injection is received six months after the second. The vaccine is most effective for females to get the injection before having their first sexual intercourse. In addition, it is very important that females get this injection as it is the only way to prevent the Uterine Cervical Cancer.

The Anam Hospital has specially lowered the price for Korean University (KU) students to only 270,000 won total, which compares to the high prices of 400,000 to 600,000 won elsewhere. The hospital has started accepting registration from April 1 and will continue to until April 12, excluding the weekends. In order to register, students or anyone willing to get the vaccine will have to call the Anam Hospital’s Call Center, and make a reservation through the phone. This service is not only restricted to KU students but also to the faculty members.

Kim Da Eun (’12, English Language and Literature), who had received the injection in Anam Hospital, said “I think that this service is very beneficial for the students because the price is very economical. Especially since cancer is something very serious, I think that prevention is very crucial as well. So it is nice that the school is offering these kinds of benefits to students.”
