On March 12 at 1 P.M, Korea University (KU) Tennis team has gathered around the Main Building in order to voice their frustration towards the KU’s decision in removing the student tennis court. According to the Student Union, in November 2012, KU reported tennis team students the removal of tennis court. As an alternative, KU suggested students to use the Professor’s tennis court. Unfortunately, professors refused to share the court with the students.

Ignorant to the students’ need of welfare facility, KU has not come up with specific decision yet. Disappointed, KU tennis team decided to contact the Office of Physical Resources so as to precede a meeting with the Vice President for Campus Planning. The tennis team researched about the present usage state of student tennis court as well as the usage of other schools.

Nevertheless, KU tennis team failed to receive an explicit decision from the school. Instead, the office of Physical Resources suggested the tennis team to appeal through the Office of Student Affairs. KU tennis team has tried to reach the Office of Physical Resources once more, but the meeting had to be delayed due to the director’s office trip. Yet, the director refused to hear from the tennis team even after returning from the trip, claiming that the tennis team fails to represent the student community.

KUtennis team’s requests are as follows. First, KU is responsible for building new student tennis court. The fact that the professors’ tennis court located in the Science Campus is also to be demolished suggests that an alternative court is not an appropriate decision. Secondly, KU tennis team demands much mutual communication between the school and the students. During the process where the tennis team requested a solution from the school, the school did not show any signs of active communication. Thus this needs to be fixed. Lastly, other than the demolishment of the student tennis court, KU needs to pay attention to other problems related to students’ welfare.
