On August 27, Seokrimhoe granted scholarships to 43 Korea University (KU) students for the second semester of 2012. The scholarship ceremony was held in Inchon Memorial Hall. All scholarship holders, the president of Seokrimhoe, and the Provost and Executive Vice President were present at the ceremony.

Seokrimhoe is a scholarship committee founded in 1970 by KU professors to foster younger students. For over 40 years, professors at Seokrimhoe have voluntarily united minds for KU students and the future of KU and Korea. Seokrimhoe currently has 941 professors as its members and is the biggest scholarship committee in KU. The committee has been operated with professors’ voluntary donations. Each member professor is donating 20,000 won at minimum per month.

This semester, 43 outstanding students from diverse majors including law school students were selected as scholarship holders. Students were granted from two to five million won respectively and 114 million won in total. The scholarship was given to the students with superior grades in the first semester and exemplary students who have shown a good conduct. Professors of each college and Academic Affairs Department conducted discussions to select scholarship holders and recommended students to the committee.

At the ceremony, Professor Shim Jae-Chul (Journalism and Mass Communication), who is the president of Seokrimhoe, made a speech saying that Seokrimhoe Scholarship is a meaningful scholarship made with KU professors’ united effort. He said, “It is a rewarding work to be a member of Seokrimhoe, putting a deep affection toward students into practice. We hope our scholarship holders become respectable persons who love KU and contribute to the nation and the whole world.”
