Korea University (KU) announced on May 1 that a new KU Bakery (Kodaebbang) branch is to open in the second floor lounge of International Studies Hall from May 2. With the opening of this new branch, there are now three KU Bakery branches, on campus.
 
The school also announced that the bakery hired five permanent employees with developmental disorders. Two employees who have a barista license and two other employees will be in charge of making coffee and drinks, and selling products. One employee with a bakers’ license will be baking the bread KU Bakery sells at the production line. KU announced that the profits gained from the KU Bakery third branch will be used for the labor costs of the disabled employees and also for disabilities rights such as awarding scholarships for the disabled students of KU.
 
“As a student who spends a lot of time in the International Studies Hall, I find it convenient to have breakfast or lunch at the new KU Bakery,” Lew Kyungmin (’15, International Studies) said. The launch of the third KU Bakery is expected to branch a new change in disabilities rights and contribute to students’ convenience.
