On October 28 from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., President Yeom Jae Ho of Korea University (KU) gave a special lecture at the Centennial Memorial SAMSUNG Hall. The speech was the first lecture of the “Pioneering Intellect” Series organized by the KU Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

Yeom’s lecture was titled “The Future of KU and the Pioneering Intellect”, a concept that President Yeom has strongly been emphasizing ever since his inauguration earlier this year. “Pioneering intellects are those who create and open up a new future for themselves, rather than merely abandoning themselves in a passive manner,” said Yeom.

Yeom’s speech mainly centered on inspiring KU students to venture into the unexplored. In the lecture, he stressed out on the point that the pioneering intellects eager to strive for the unknown world would ultimately be the future of KU. In addition, he also asserted that living in the 21st century, students should learn to become flexible in every field, since lifetime workplace is no longer possible.

Overall, the essential theme of President Yeom’s lecture was similar to his inauguration speech. However, whereas his prior one was aimed at the role of higher education institutions, his latest speech dealt with how KU students themselves should willingly pursue unfamiliarity and not be afraid to confront changes.
