Among Korea University (KU) and Waseda University students, student communicators will be selected to visit Hiroshima city and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan diplomatic relation.

Student communicators were recruited since 2009. They will attend the memorial ceremony for the Korean victims of the atomic bomb crisis and the peace commemoration ceremony, giving flower tributes and planting commemorative trees. They will also have open debates on the current situation of Korean victims, distortion of history in textbooks, solutions to improving Korea-Japan relations, and other various issues. Participation fee including plane tickets, room charge, food expenses, and transportation fees will all be funded.
 
Ten students from each university will be recruited. Student of any major and prospective graduates or students on leave of absence can also apply, including previous participants of the program. The program will be held from August 4 to 7, in Hiroshima, Fukuyama, and other Japanese cities. Those wishing to apply can first send the application form attached on the notice board of the portal until May 21, 5 P.M. Some student will then be selected for an interview. Final participants will be announced on June 1.
 
Kim So Hyung (’14, International Studies) said, “Although this single event will not create a significant change in Korea-Japan relations, it would be an opportunity for many young students to learn more about history and take proper perspectives.” The exchange of valuable ideas on Korea-Japan relations is hoped to take place.
