Korean Language Center is going to offer help to foreign students who come from the Defense Language Institute (DLI)in the United States (U.S.). It has announced its recruiting plan to select 10 students who are willing to serve as language helpers for the foreign students. The selected members will be given the opportunity to serve as the 39th Language Helpers of DLI Immersion at Korea University (DLIKIKU). Applications are available until the May 4, 5 P.M. and the final results of the selective process will be reported individually to the drafted students, on May 6. A special training session for the final members is will take place on May 7, 3P.M., and the first meeting with the foreign students will be on May 11, 10 A.M..

Applicants are required to be fluent in Korean, not English. If selected, the student will have to practice Korean language twice a week with his or her partner from DLI. Language Helpers are also required to write journals with pictures after every practice to report their activities. DLIKIKU will hand out certificates for those that could prove their volunteer activities.
This activity is very popular on campus. Students think it is a great opportunity for them to meet foreigners and share stories beyond borders. “Korea University (KU) is, in fact, becoming more international, and I think it really benefits the students in KU,” said SeungYeon Han (’15, Interdisciplinary Studies). “I believe it will be a great opportunity for all students who participate because there are not enough chances to for us to hang around with international students. It’s even better because we are meeting to share our differences, and I think that’s the key to preparing to become a global leader,” she continued.
