The "Breakfast of 1,000 won" initiative represents a collaborative endeavor involving the government, local authorities, and educational institutions to provide students with affordable breakfasts. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, the initiative's overarching goal is to support students with limited financial resources, and stimulate rice consumption in Korea. The expenses for the program are shared, with the ministry and students contributing 1,000 won per meal, while the universities cover the remaining costs.

Amidst growing concerns surrounding the government’s budget and its ability to keep the program running nationwide, Korea University’s (KU) Sejong Campus recently disclosed a significant contribution to its "Breakfast of 1,000 won" program. Nonghyup Bank's Sejong Headquarters has donated a substantial amount of rice, weighing 1,900 kilograms total and valued at 5 million won, in support of this initiative.

Kim Young, Vice President of Sejong Campus, emphasized the pivotal role of breakfast in students' academic success and overall well being, after which he extended his appreciation to Nonghyup Bank's Sejong Headquarters for their heartfelt donation. Kim Ki-kwan, the head of Nonghyup Bank's Sejong Division, lauded KU's Sejong Campus for its leadership in nurturing future's leaders. He expressed optimism that these students, representing the bedrock of society's future, will evolve into accomplished individuals, adding luster to Sejong through their embrace of healthy eating habits.
