In the 2023 Annual Conference on Human and Cognitive Language Technology (HCLT) held on October 26, 2023, Korea University (KU) was given one top thesis award and three excellence awards, being honored with an impressive record for winning the highest number of awards in the conference. The NLP&AI research team from Professor Lim Hee Seok's lab at KU was awarded the grand prize out of all the outstanding theses released during the conference. This is the same team with which The Granite Tower (GT) initially reported on the accomplishments of "KoCheckGPT" in October.

The NLP&AI team’s grand prize-winning thesis covered the Large Language Model (LLM) called "KULLM.” It specifically points out the development process of the pre-trained language model called "Polyglot-Ko," to provide high-quality Korean language datasets to KULLM. This dataset, in contrast to previous text datasets, has boosted its capacity to adequately respond to commands in natural language, including the proper use of infinitive makers and maintenance of contextual flow. Professor Lim stressed the group's influence on the field of natural language processing in both the academic and industrial fields, emphasizing the significance of improving on the natural language processing models for Hangeul.
