As you first lay eyes on the cover page, you might find yourself questioning how the City of Light’s iconic landmark relates to the monthly theme of “hook, line, and sinker.” The truth is, it is actually a photograph captured in Mokdong’s Paris Park, featuring a miniature Eiffel Tower. Similarly, in this October issue of The Granite Tower (GT), we aim to draw readers in with the same level of conviction and immersion.

Much like how a globetrotter sets their sights on renowned destinations, we embarked on a journey to truly hook, line, and sink into the multitude of topics and perspectives. Our Cover Story navigates the artificial intelligence (AI) boom in the creative field, where agreement and controversy often exist side by side regarding the ethical dilemmas surrounding its usage. In our Features and Foreign Reports, we shine a light on pressing issues such as the need for protection of teachers’ rights in Korea, and the escalation of violence in Ecuador.

This month, GT organized a Writing Competition centered around the theme: “Hooked on Change: The Beauty and Pains of Growing Up,” and the October issue features the contest winner. Readers can also enjoy reading our Voice on Campus, where personal anecdotes about the lies shared by Korea University (KU) students can be found. Each tale reveals a facet of life, adding depth and character to our exploration of the monthly theme. Hopefully, our diverse interpretations will help you embrace the myriad meanings “hook, line, and sinker” takes on, regardless of whether they lean towards the positive or the negative.
