After the rugby match that took place in the morning, the pressure that was on the soccer teams of both Korea University (KU) and Yonsei University (YU) could be felt by every student in Goyang Stadium. The nerve-racking 90-minute game concluded with a landslide victory from KU against YU with a score of 3–0. Thus KU was announced the winner of the Ko-Yon games for the second consecutive year, after breaking its six-year losing record.

As the first half of the game began, KU’s soccer team started strong with an aggressive offensive strategy that came close to a goal multiple times within a short period. Nevertheless, the team could not convert any of those opportunities into a goal as the players from YU showed highly skilled footwork and defensive techniques. Finally, near the end of the first 45 minutes, KU’s soccer team had the chance to play a corner kick which came dangerously close to getting inside the net, except that a YU player managed to stop the ball. However, to the benefit of KU’s team, player Jang Hyun-do, who had stood in the way of the ball’s trajectory, accidentally touched it with his hand, earning a red card as a result. KU was then given a penalty kick, and the responsibility was left to the team's captain Lee Jiho (’20, Physical Education), who successfully scored a goal against YU. Thus the first half of the game came to an end with a score of 1–0.

During the second half of the game, YU started by employing a quick offensive strategy to try and tie the score. However, KU’s soccer team did not let that throw them off their game, and instead of falling back and focusing on defending the point that they had, the players continued to seek more goals. The team’s forwards, together with the midfielders kept pushing YU’s players further and further back into the defensive third, effectively cutting off most of their opportunities to score a goal. For most of the second half, the score remained unchanged until the last ten minutes of the game when things started heating up again. Taking advantage of the opposing team’s growing desperation, KU was able to score 2 more goals, with the last of them occurring only minutes before the end of the game.

KU’s soccer team successfully vindicated itself from last year’s match where they lost against YU 1-0. This year, despite their many efforts, YU could not fight back the advances made by KU and, by the time the referee concluded the match, there was no room for doubt that KU was the rightful winner of the Ko-Yon games.
