The game burst into life as YU launched a relentless offensive right from the opening whistle. In a mere 1 minute and 29 seconds, the action reached a fever pitch when Choi Won-ho (’20, Physical Education) of Yonsei found himself in the penalty box, putting Korea University at a numerical disadvantage for a grueling four minutes. The pressure was palpable as Yonsei relentlessly tested the KU defense. Lee Seung-jae and Gong Yu-chan launched a series of attacks, but KU’s unyielding goalkeeper, Ha Jeong-ho (’20, Physical Education), stood tall. After several near misses, YU finally broke the deadlock at the 4-minute mark. Lee Seung-jae capitalized on a power play, converting a pass from Gong Yu-chan and Moon Geon-oh into a spectacular goal. The crowd erupted as Yonsei seized the initiative, but Korea University was not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

KU responded with remarkable energy, and at precisely 11 minutes and 22 seconds, Heo Min-jun (‘23, Physical Education) seized a golden opportunity. A pass from Choi Sung-soon (‘23, Physical Education) found its mark, and Heo Min-jun expertly slotted the puck into the net from the left side, equalizing the score at 1:1. This moment marked the onset of an electrifying back-and-forth battle, with both teams fiercely vying for supremacy. As the game unfolded, penalties introduced a new layer of complexity, leading to intense power play situations for both sides. The tension in the arena suddenly escalated as each team fought tooth and nail to exploit their numerical advantages. Throughout the entire main part of the game, the goalkeepers continuously showcased incredible skill and unwavering determination, consistently making admirable saves.

As the third period unfolded, YU continued to showcase its dominance. Their relentless pressure paid off with a third goal, brilliantly executed by Bae Sang-ho. YU’s defense stood firm, thwarting every attempt by KU to mount a comeback. As the game neared its conclusion, the intensity reached its peak. KU’s desperation was palpable as they launched a last-minute comeback effort, but YU’s unwavering goalkeeper made breathtaking saves, cementing their victory. In the end, Yonsei University demonstrated their strong determination to claim this year’s title, excelling not only in baseball – earlier the same day – but also in this intense hockey match, finishing with a resounding 4:1 victory – the same score earned by a victorious KU the previous year.
