Open to professional designers and students from all over the world, the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is one of the longest-running and most prestigious design competitions to exist. Every year the contest is hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) which ensures a wide array of categories are available for participation to recognize the multifaceted nature of design.  Some of these categories include consumer products, sustainability initiatives, medical devices, and so forth. This year, pursuing what is truly a career-defining award, Korea University (KU) assembled a team of students led by Professor Yoo Seung-hun (School of Arts and Design).

They were granted a total of six awards, including a gold medal in the category of Student Designs for designers Kim Minkyun and Lee Yunjung (School of Arts and Design). Their design, named Bandi, consists of a comprehensive livestock quarantine system. With the use of management drones, mobile applications, and first aid packages, Bandi safeguards the health of livestock and farmers alike, bridging the gap in manpower and preventing the inhumane killing of animals. The remaining five medals were awarded to another 14 KU students in the categories of user interface and user experience, a remarkable achievement sure to bring much international exposure to the university and the talent it continues to nurture.
