Just like how the rising sun illuminates the world with warmth and brilliance, we, too, find ourselves in a phase of awakening and renewal. As the days grow shorter and the air begins to carry a hint of crispness, September signals the start of a new semester for all students at Korea University (KU). Thus, in this month’s issue of The Granite Tower (GT), we shed light upon how people rose to prominence and shined in their fields of study and expertise – be it leading social initiatives, excelling in academia, or pursuing creative passions.

To start the fall semester, GT provides its readers with course recommendations from KU students through our Voice on Campus piece. Our Cover Story hopes to inspire readers, as it delves into the ever-changing space industry by introducing its history and the surrounding ethical concerns regarding the space tourism boom, as well as providing insight into its development in Korea. Additionally, our Feature articles raise awareness about some systemic failures in Korea, such as the overcrowding on subways during rush hours and an increase in “ghost babies” due to social taboos and a lack of maternal support.

On a more lighthearted note, we interviewed a current student at KU who is making a positive impact in the field of politics for our KU People article, and our Special Arts & Culture piece highlights the impact of Thai media on queer representation. In our GT Spotlight section, reporters shared what they did during the summer holidays. Overall, we hope the September issue serves as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging readers to rise to their full potential and shine brightly, cherishing their own “rise and shine” experiences.
