Korea University (KU) has been selected as the participant of the of Laboratory Specialized Start-Up Universities project, a government-supported business project jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Information & Communications Technology (ICT). The project is formulated for university laboratories and aims to revitalize high-value technology innovation start-ups, with participants being selected based on the quality of their research results.

KU has previously been selected as the host of the first round of the project in 2022, which resulted in the development of thirty-two laboratory start-up items and twenty-three faculty start-ups, along with the provision of financial support to eleven companies. For this second round, university laboratories that own promising start-up technologies laboratories are to be specifically named “innovative start-up laboratories” and receive annual investments of approximately 1 billion KRW.

KU’s selection to this project is a significant accomplishment that could offer the needed support for KU-based start-up companies with innovative technology with lots of growth potential. “We will not withhold our support towards new start-ups and lab-to-market processes that were unearthed through the support provided by this program,” commented Kwon Jeong-Hwan, president of KU’s Research & Business Foundation, in an interview with KU.
