On Monday, March 6, 2023, The Granite Tower (GT) opened its first promotional booth, titled “GT’s Homecoming Party,” at People’s Square from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. The event was held as part of its efforts to attract and recruit new cub reporters for the 2023 Spring semester, as well to help other KU students learn more about the magazine.

The booth consisted of several games that correspond to each of the sections of GT’s monthly issues. For instance, the games of the “Arts and Culture” asked participants to name a song title that included a certain designated word, and the “In KU” section included questions about random fun facts about KU.

The booth was one of GT’s first in-person promotion attempts after the pandemic period held to directly reach new potential readers and members. According to GT’s Editor-in-Chief Yun Sunwoo (‘21, Business Administration), the booth – a “passion project” – was a “huge shift” from its usual focus on “delivering information from afar.” The booth was greatly appreciated by both GT members and visitors. “Every member was trying their best, and it was such a fun and special experience,” commented GT Reporter Ekin Sevinc (’21, Linguistics). “I hope the GT booth will also receive lots of love and attention in the future.”
