Korea University Badminton Club (KUBC) has been accused of abusing the Korea University Portal to Information Depository (KUPID) log-in information of former members without their consent. Various former members have reported having their portal IDs used in reserving Hwa Jeong Tiger Dome, with some posting anonymous condemnations on online school communities.

In a second public apology posted on Koreapas, KUBC confirmed that they have collected the KUPID log-in information of members for reservation purposes but have failed to ask for the consent of former members in continuing to utilize their information, citing internal inefficiencies as the reason. The club has further assured that they would offer individual apologies to any exploited accounts and immediately delete their information, claiming the implicitness of the club’s annually descended executive sector from 2014 to 2022.

Victims are considering legal action, as actions of the club may go against the Personal Information Protection Act that specifies that the personal information controller must not use personal information beyond formerly specified purposes, placing the unauthorized collection and use of information as a legal offense. The extent to which the situation may escalate is not yet known.
