Korea University (KU) has opened a course called “Screen Japanese" (JAPN281-02) taught by Professor Han Jungkyun (Department of Japanese Language and Literature).

The course JAPN281 is unique as professors can freely decide what they want to teach in their syllabus. Students can learn different things by registering for a specific section. Professor Han has decided to focus on teaching the Japanese language and culture through an anime called Demon Slayer. The anime portrays two main characters seeking revenge on demons that attacked their family.

The anime, which is considered one of the highest-grossing films in Japan, can be easily accessed on online platforms. As a result, it has gained the attention of educators seeking to incorporate anime in class. Thus, students who register for this course are given the opportunity to study the plot, symbolism, characters, episodes, and literary elements of this anime. They can also analyze the Japanese entertainment boom and anime popularity with not so much difficulty. Anyone who is interested in anime is welcome to the class.
