Korea University (KU)’s School of Psychology took a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Center for Youth Mental Health, a subdivision of the National Center for Mental Health, for the purpose of jointly providing early intervention services for adolescents at high risk of psychiatric disorders. The Center for Youth Mental Health is a nationally-funded mental health organization that specializes in the full psychiatric and social recovery of people between the ages of 15 and 34.

The agreement, which took place on August 4, established the foundations for cooperation between the two parties to provide rehabilitation programs for high-risk psychiatric youths. Cognitive behavioral therapy, a form of therapy renowned for its effect on delaying or eliminating the rate of relapse for mental patients, will be the major strategy employed in the development of programs.

“Early intervention services lay their purpose on preventing mental illness and long-term functional damage in young individuals,”, the director of the Center for Youth Mental Health, commented on the ceremony, “Our cooperation with KU’s School of Psychology would establish a solid base for professional early intervention services and a nurturing environment for young people’s mental health.”
