Be it trivial or long term, one always sets a goal. However, the journey of meeting this goal is often met with adversities that might lead to a possible failure. Even if one tries their hardest, fate will not always on their side, leading them to give up halfway. Nevertheless, despite such adversities, one is bound to continue dreaming and chasing the rainbow. Therefore, in order to illustrate these ongoing efforts to reach a seemingly impossible goal, the Photo Division of The Granite Tower (GT) captured the different colors found in our surroundings and created a collage representing the rainbow all people seek for.

Numbed by the repetitive cycle of modern life, our visions are often faded by the apparent monotony of our surroundings. Keeping in theme with the rainbow spirit of GT’s June issue, I challenged myself to seek out and discover the extra within the ordinary. Scavenging Korea University (KU) for different shades of red, orange, and yellow, I realized how colorful the KU campus was and reveled at the number of different hues I was able to find for each color. The following collage represent the pigments that cast the beautiful scenes at KU.

The month ‘June’ and rainbows go together. Not only does June symbolize Pride Month, it also signals the end of the semester for university students, a new chapter dawning in their lives. Undoubtedly, a fresh start goes hand in hand with setting bold and ambitious objectives, in other words, “chasing rainbows.” Thus, for June’s issue, adopting the theme of this issue took a challenge. The Photo Division created a visual representation of a rainbow by using various pictures representing each color of the rainbow to make a collage. This new endeavor aims to capture the diversity and a metaphorical sense of persistence.

While preparing for this month’s photo essay, I pondered about what “color” means to us in this day and age. Color affects us all throughout life, starting from our earlier years. One of the first things we learn at school besides the alphabet and numbers are colors. Some of us have a favorite color that we prefer over any other. Colors make up artwork, landscapes, fashionable looks, and can even manage to work up our appetite.

The colors I captured are pink, black, and white. While doing so, I found that for me, pink embodies love and warmth, black radiates a slick coolness, and white entails purity and cleanliness. The same color can have a different meaning for each individual, and that’s why I believe “color” can unite and also characterize all people alike.
