The term “chasing rainbows” originates from an old tale that if you dig at the end of a rainbow where it touches the Earth, you can find a crock of gold; simply put, it means pursuing a nearly impossible goal. However, impossible is subjective. Depending on our life experiences, values, and preferences, we may all have different definitions of impossible. Thus, in the June issue of The Granite Tower (GT), we address issues that challenge the fundamental question, “Is this even realistic?” in the hope of providing a wider range of perspectives for our readers.

In honor of June being Pride Month, our Cover Story dissects the general perception of the LGBTQ community on both global and domestic scales. Our goal with this article is to analyze the treatment of sexual minorities in our society accurately and objectively, which should ideally facilitate productive conversations on how to create a truly inclusive community. In line with Pride Month, two guest reporters with international backgrounds have been invited to express their opinions on diversity within Korea University. We also circle back to the issue’s main theme “chasing rainbows” by discussing the present states and future outlooks of controversial topics such as air taxis, drag queens, and fast fashion. Perhaps our takes on these issues may serve as an inspiration for you to question the impossible.

To think about becoming the Editor-in-Chief of GT two years ago would have been chasing rainbows to me. Yet, here I am, writing my final editor’s letter in this June issue. I am absolutely grateful for the opportunity that GT has given me; above all, I would like to thank all the editors, reporters, and advisers that have guided me throughout my journey in GT. The upcoming generations of GT staff will infinitely have my support as I retire as a reader.
