Korea University (KU)’s CIS (College of International Studies) and GSIS (Graduate School of International Studies) presented a celebratory seminar on May 12, commemorating both the establishment of the CIS and the commencement of the Division of Global Korean Studies (GKS). Following the launch of GKS this March, the newly promoted CIS takes both the Division of International Studies (DIS) and GKS under its administrative umbrella.

Presentations concerning International Peace and Security, International Development and Cooperation, International Commerce, and Korean Studies, the main academic pillars of CIS, were given by faculty members. Speakers provided a delineated overview of the global status of the subjects and set an agenda for the future advancement of CIS. Student presenters also took on the podium: CIS student bodies such as the CIS Emergency Response Committee, DISney (18th DIS Student Council), and Division of Global Korean Studies Emergency Response Committee (DGKS) gave structural overviews of their respective representations and clarified term goals.

“[The mentioned subjects] serve critical angles with which Korean and global communities have a better understanding of global affairs,” CIS·GSIS stated of the events. “CIS and GSIS will provide brand-new perspectives and analyses with the recognition of connectivity, creativity, and inclusiveness of Koreanness.”
