On November 9, Korea University Medical Center (KUMC) and Hyundai Motors signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a joint research on “the development of smart medical device and mobile hospital.” Ji Young Jo, president of Hyundai Motors Innovation and Kim Young Hoon President of KUMC participated in the signing ceremony.

By April 2023, Hyundai Motor and KUMC plan to conduct research and execute the test operation of visiting medical services for patients who suffer from impaired mobility due to various factors including but not limited to, such as old age, disease, injury, and childbirth. Hyundai Motors will use sport utility vehicles (SUV) and large buses equipped with smart medical devices to fulfill this goal, and KUMC will visit nursing homes and patients’ residences with this vehicle. KUMC will establish a cloud-based mobile hospital system to integrate online services from doctor diagnosis to treatment.

With the MOU, President Ji expects that they will be able to provide medical services to the underprivileged. President Kim claimed that, “through cooperation with Hyundai Motors, we will improve the health of the vulnerable population as the best social medical institution in Korea.”
