Korea University Medical Center (KUMC), was awarded its fifth accreditation from the Joint Commission (JCI) on September 30. The JCI is a non-profit organization based in the United States (U.S.), which accredits renowned hospitals and medical facilities throughout the world. The JCI is famous for prioritizing the safety of the patient first and foremost in their considerations and has thus come to become accepted as one of the leading global standards for the assessing the quality of a medical facility.

Ever since its first accreditation in 2009, KUMC has repeatedly been re-examined by the JCI and has met their high standards. The fifth and latest examination, which took place in July over a period of five days, seems to be proof of KUMC’s constant effort towards providing only the best measures possible for its patients, and further ensuring that the infrastructure and services supporting them are constantly maintained.

Park Jong Hoon, the President of KUMC, emphasized that “while JCI accreditations are not mandatory in Korea, the patient safety measures that are confirmed by an accreditation are.” He further elaborated on the importance of exemplary hospital services amidst the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), and stated that “KUMC will continue to strive in its efforts in becoming one of the most trustworthy medical facilities.”
