Korea University (KU) is scheduled to establish the Division of Global Korean Studies, which will begin by accepting freshmen for 2022. Moreover, KU plans to incorporate the existing Division of International Studies and the new department into the novel College of International Studies to produce global leaders with a great understanding of Korean culture and history. The department will receive mainly foreign students, with a quota of only five domestic students. It will teach liberal arts such as history, language, and culture as well as social sciences such as history, language, and culture as well as social sciences such as economics, business, and media studies.

KU explained that the major courses will be offered in both Korean and English. Students who pass the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) and achieve the required standards can follow the Korean curriculum as well. KU is also currently recruiting experts of social sciences, mainly in the field of Korean politics, international relations, and Korean media to make up the department faculty. As such, the novel department is expected to cultivate competent leaders who will be performing in various fields as experts in Koreanology and enhance the education and study of the discipline internationally.
