On May 3, Kim Hyun-chul, the president of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Association, and Lee Woo-Kyun, both the leader of Sustainable Development Solution Network Korea (SDSN Korea) and a professor at Korea University (KU), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the discovery and development of a “social artificial intelligence (AI)”. The MOU, which took place at KU’s SDSN Korea meeting room,  signifies Korea’s first step towards developing a “social AI certification system”, one that hopes to embody social welfare in supporting sustainable development, and one that would also be capable of overseas application. This is very important because of the widespread use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) of which AI is being used to sort and manage all these processing capabilities.

By creating an AI that can understand and utilize social intelligence, the two organizations hope to help achieve societal goals for the future. Since Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is expected to play a large role in facilitating sustainable development, launching this system will lead to a wealth of information that can be applied globally. Professor Lee expressed his  eagerness to participate in creating this “social AI ecosystem,” while the Secretary General of the Korea ArtificialIntelligence Association also appeared hopeful about the ultimate implementation of this social technology.
