On March 10, the third reelection for the 52nd Korea University Student Union (KUSU) was called off as no candidate registered within the deadline. The Emergency Planning Committee will continue to be in charge until KUSU can be organized in the fourth reelection scheduled in November.

The road to the 52nd KUSU has been especially bumpy since the initial election in December 2019 failed to reach the minimum voter turnout of 33.33 percent. The first reelection in April 2020 was canceled as the sole election campaign team Sisun was disqualified due to three accumulated warnings. The second reelection with the sole election campaign team Moment was held on November 2020, only to be called off once again due to low voter turnout. With all three previous elections canceled, this third reelection marks the first time that the election was ever canceled with no candidate.

Unfortunately, the three-semester-long absence of KUSU comes amid the unprecedented coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, a turbulent period when a highly functioning student body is required to represent the students’ needs more than ever.
