On January 14, an agreement was made between Korea University Medical Center (KUMC) and the region of Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do to foster medical and biotechnology facilities in cooperation. This is yet another victory for KUMC, which already has established numerous cooperative systems of similar make with other local areas, research facilities, and privately-owned companies. This agreement with Gwacheon-si specifically focuses on advancing biomedical research and healthcare provisions to the residents of Gwacheon City. The city itself has a population of 63,000 according to the censure taken on December 12, 2020, and this partnership seeks to increase self-sufficiency and population growth to at least 150,000 people by 2035.

 

Kim Young-hoon, President of KUMC, said kind words about the newly established partnership between Gwacheon-si and KUMC, by stating that they are pleased to be a part of revitalizing the bio-healthcare industry through this semi-public partnership. Mayor Kim Jong-cheon and President Kim Young-hoon attended the ceremony to give official support to this partnership between two distinct organizations.
