November 10 saw the celebration of the 50th anniversary of cooperation between Korea University (KU) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). The ceremony, held at the SK Future Hall, started with a brief overview of the various accomplishments made during the last half-century, along with further ambitions for another 50 years of collaboration. This was followed up by a short presentation from the alumni representative, and a speech from former KIST President Moon Kil-Choo on how “Education is revolutionary.”

KU President Chung Jin Taek also made an appearance, quoting that he hopes that “KIST, as a partner for the last 50 years and for another 50, may become a central pillar in the field of solving humanity’s problems innovatively through its multidimensional integrated synergy with KU.” He followed this up by stating that “besides integrated science and engineering, almost every field of study will require integrational synergy in the near future,” which he hoped the ceremony “helped set up a bigger future viewpoint for.”

KUand KIST have long shared a productive relation since 1970, with several notable achievements such as the establishment of the KU-KIST Graduate School of Energy and Environment in 2010. Along with the upcoming KU-KIST School’s support for the Department of Integrative Energy Engineering, the 50th anniversary celebration seems to signal a fruitful future of cooperation.
