Recently, photos of Korea University (KU) students drinking, eating, and playing drinking games without a mask on in KU Central Plaza were found on social media, causing controversy among the KU community.

In order to minimize any potential threats to the health of KU students, the head of the Emergency Central Steering Committee and the Office of Student Affairs uploaded a note on the KU Student Union official Facebook page on September 18. The note first expressed gratitude towards students who are following the university rules of social distancing. At the same time, it stated that there has been a recent increase in students gathering on campus, such as the KU Central Plaza and the People’s Square.

Therefore, the note mentioned that KU will strengthen the campus police night patrol on campus 24 hours a day to monitor students who do not have a mask or are eating and drinking at school. The strengthened regulations are expected to help reduce COVID-19 cases among students, teachers, and the faculty, thus providing a safe school environment for everyone.
