Award-winning artist Jacob Collier is a unique artist who has let his artistry shine in the best of ways. In 2017 and 2020, his talents and a unique genre fusion have led him to receive four Grammy Awards. As a musical stylist that specializes in the arrangement rather than performance, all his awards belong to the Best Arrangement, Instrument, or A Cappella sector. Indeed, it seems that his talent is undisputed, and this striving artist is continually seeking to inspire the masses with his musical arrangements.

Jacob Collier’s style is nonspecific to a single genre—instead, he is adept at fusing different elements of musical style, even specializing in extreme *reharmonization* of instruments and vocals. *Reharmonization* is a very sophisticated technique of altering melodic lines to introduce new sections to the composition—and the extreme version of this method provides alterations that no longer resemble the original composition. Furthermore, his work, unlike many contemporary artists, specializes in collaboration. So far, his works have included the fusion of jazz music, pop, funk, a capella, classical, rhythm and blues.

This peculiar interest in music began in his early childhood, and his family ties were ideal in eliciting an affection for musical artistry. Due to their success, Collier was able to grow up in a stable household in London, with the encouragement and funds to fulfill his interests during his childhood years. In 2013, his debut song was first made with the masterfully coordinated piece, “Don’t You Worry ’bout a Thing.” As a six-minute a capella piece sung by Collier himself on multiple pitches, it features his mastery in harmony and the different musical instruments that he plays.

Jacob Collier’s works have steadily improved in complexity over the years. His early song is now incomparable to his massive project called *Djesse*, an album that features 50 songs with two dozen artists in active collaboration on this project. It is currently divided into three parts due to its massive scale, and the last edition, Djesse Vol. 3 is set to release on August 14. Collier has stated that this volume “is when things get very real indeed,” noting that it is far superior in quality compared to the previous parts or singles released of this series. The first *sample* of a single “Time Alone With You” featuring Daniel Caesar was officially released on November 29, 2019, and it serves as a teaser for the collection to come.

Overall, Collier can be proud to say that he is a great artist currently in the making, as well as a self-starter in the fiercely competitive music industry. Despite the oversaturated market, Collier indeed stands out from the crowd with his unique compositions and collaborations. His music can be aptly appreciated by those who have listened to his unique creations, and it is with great hope that his creations will be further appreciated beyond the competitive stage.
