On May 15, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea University (KU) and five other universities, which LH selected as Korea’s first foothold for urban regeneration.

The MOU aims to create a more effective education system to carry out the human resource training project for urban regeneration. In accordance with the agreement, the six universities selected by LH will cooperate in areas such as the development of unified textbooks for urban regeneration and course exchange programs. In this process, LH promised to share information by dispatching urban regeneration experts and support the education of its employees. The newly created master’s and doctorate programs, in which students can obtain a degree in urban regeneration by taking the required courses along with their original major, will begin from the upcoming fall semester.

Regarding the MOU, LH President Byun Chang Heum expressed his hopes that it will “contribute to the spread of urban regeneration beyond our community by training experts who will lead our nation’s urban regeneration.” Indeed, the agreement seems to have pioneered the cooperation between corporations and universities towards a sustainable future.
