There are more than 10 school newspapers including the magazines in Korea University(KU). Some might want to read about the fashion of college students while some might want to learn about the school information that they did not know. Among many, there would be at least one thing that they expect from school newspapers and each would have different meanings toward KU students. What does school newspapers mean to you?

School newspaper is what reports the news based on on-campus events. However, to me,  I believe that school newspaper should include more news in-and-out the campus on what students are curious about and what they need to know. It's sources have to be more diverse. I think, and it is true that not a lot of students are interested in school newspapers. This is because the school newspapers themselves are indistinctive in their writings. It would make a better newspaper if all the school newspapers provide various news and have their own colors from paper to paper. They also would have to think about the thoughts of students and their interests.

I still remember the cover page of the October issue of The Granite Tower. It came as a fresh blow to me that they used an illustration of Sungnyemun Gate. The newspaper has set our history as their cover story unraveling the story easier for the foreigners and exchange students who are easily seen on campus. I think The Granite Tower tries their best to approach to the foreigners on campus as their buddy, using having less language barriers. Not only the Granite Tower, the fabulous design and the contents of our school newspapers seem to discuss the value of our society and problems, and it should be highly praised.

For me, School Newspaper is a place where all the Korea University students get informaton and communicate. We often get to know the information about school that we could have missed through the help of school newspapers. There are lots of things going on and off campus that we cannot even get a clue of it. I think this is what school newspapers should do. To find out about the vague information that the school is giving out to the students and to obtain the truth of all sorts of rumors on campus. They need to consider student's interest and try to give them information for them to actually put it into an action. Instead of a mere publicity articles, they should focus on giving out neutral and accurate information.

At those times when I read other general newspapers and the news articles about our school are on, my interest immediately sparks up and I never fail to stop and read. It is probably the fact that I identify myself strongly as a Korea University student that I am drawn toward these articles amongst others. Binding these articles together would make a student newspaper, and it is so special in that only the students of that certain school is most likely to have much interest when reading. This characteristic, in my opinion, gives the student periodicals the power to give the readers a sense of belonging. Student newspapers remind readers that they have a common interest and concerns and I think it has a potential to serve as a sort of “glue” that can bond students together.
