“Clap your hands, clap your hands. Turn the lights on my nights, this is life,” goes the lyrics of the song “Clap Your Hands.” As soon as you push on the small play button, one warm, bizarre voice will hypnotize your ear and tremble your soul. The heart starts to bounce almost right away with the rhythmical beat of the guitar, and you will probably feel yourself drowning in the life of this true musician, Sia Furler.
Appreciating music is not much different from eating a spoonful of a delicious meal. Ripping open the case of the album We Are Born, both eyes see colors fluttering over their pupils and landing down on the face of the woman on the album cover. Turning on the music, two ears begin to taste the soul of the melody. The low flowing voice of the singer drags you deep into the tunnel of delight and sweetness. After hearing all 13 songs on the album, the mouth kicks its tongue with an epiphany and shouts, “That was definitely the last pinch of salt!”
Salt is the primary ingredient in cooking. There is little, if any, food that does not contain even a grain of salt. It is especially the last pinch of salt that acts as the last punch to decide the taste of the entire food and as the only link to connect all the different attractions of ingredients. The voice of Sia Kate Isabelle Furler, an Australian singer-song-writer, is this final essence with her unusual voice that smoothly blends with the whole musical fondue. Her notes themselves sparkle with powerful shock, but also match well with the notes of others.
There would only be a few musicians, if you were to count them, who have been able to make so many collaborations as Sia. With her eccentric voice recognized by renowned artists, Sia was given a chance to mingle her musical talent with them. She took part in creating albums for David Guetta, Eminem, and Britney Spears, and achieved quite a success in featuring works. In fact, the song “Titanium,” co-written with Guetta, shot up to the Billboard Top Ten. Needless to say, she is performing as the greatest assistant in helping the song brighten its light.
What makes her voice so stimulating, gloomy yet hopeful, is nothing else but her life. Her success was not achieved with much ease, but came after hell and high tides. With much fluctuation, Sia had to overcome the overwhelming storm ahead, and the tears and blood she had to shed for years polished her voice into a sparkling diamond.
Her first adversity came with the death of her beloved boyfriend, Dan. Reaching quite a triumph with her debut solo album, she had to confront with the news that he was killed in a traffic accident. Afterwards, her music failed to be popular for a while. She was able to enter the Billboard Chart with her second solo album, Healing is Difficult, but mostly, people did not take interest in her music. Nevertheless, Sia was not the musician to accept renunciation. Overcoming sorrow and continuous slump, she released her long-expected album We Are Born in 2010, which opened up the road to the world of Sia Furler.
“We made it through the darkness to the light. Oh, how we fought yet still we won the fight. Oh yes, we stand together,” goes the song “The Fight,” as it depicts the life of Sia. A well-paved path was not given to her, but that eventually became the core reason that she grew up to become the last pinch of salt.
