Several days passed after the new semester started. With the new start, there have been various events ongoing, especially at the Minju Plaza. There had been a photo exhibition which the Granite Tower (GT) held for two days. There also were protest marches among KU’s temporary working employers. Else than that, the Godaegonggamdae (the Student Union Body) is distributing its students the Student Union Membership Card, otherwise known as Youth Card Plus.

The distributions of these cards have started in March 10 and will end shortly in March 14. To be specific, the event starts at 10 o’clock in the morning and ends at 5 P.M. Students line up to get these red cards at each break. At first, many of the students thought that the cards were free of charge. Eventually, it turned out not and surprisingly, some KU students are not able to get these cards.

In order to get the KU Youth Card Plus, students should have paid the Student Union fees along with registration fees. If not, students are not able to get the benefits which will save their allowances. The cards enable some discounts in not only some restaurants and cafes around Anam-dong, but also in convenient facilities like CGV.

The cards might present its holders economic advantages. “I understand the good intention of the Godaegonggamdae,” stated Kim Jeong-hyun (’14, Industrial Management Engineering). “However, I don’t usually grab a bite in the listed restaurants or purchase something in the listed shops.” Indeed, some students are saying that the cards are not handy as anticipated.
