The second series of the camp “Towards Fusion” was hosted on February 24-25, 2014. Appropriately named “Introducing Poetry,” the camp was held with the purpose of raising creative individuals with a cognitive process based on poetic and engineering knowledge. Located at the Korea University (KU) Science and Engineering Campus, the camp was to be led by four chaperones, including Professor Shin Ji Young from Korean Language and Literature.

The application notice that appeared on the KU website was recruiting four interested College of Engineering students, while several other College of Engineering students from different schools, including Hongik University and Chung-Ang University, were also recruited, totaling more or less forty College of Engineering students. The applications were sent via email.

The camp was comprised of a series of lectures and debate sessions. After being taught on poetic and engineering language and thought processes, students were to be split into six groups with more or less seven students in each group. Each group was given an assignment related to the lecture, and members were to discuss the subject and complete the assignment. Once done, the students were then expected to prepare a presentation about their task.

Shin Inmo (‘13, Business), a student interested in the idea of fusion courses and subjects, expressed his sentiments about the camp. “It is a shame the camp was only open for students from a certain major.” To Shin, fusion knowledge is a concept worthy of studying, and he wishes a similar event open to all students would be held in the future.
