The College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology held events for its 60th anniversary at the Hwajung Stadium on November 2, 2013. A total of 600 alumni attended the event, including Korea University’s (KU) head of alumni association Joo Sun Hwe, the head of the college’s alumni association, Joo Nam Gyu, and the president of KU, Kim Byung Chul.

The current college originates from the former College of Agriculture and College of Liberal Arts and Science and the name of the college has changed over the years. As a consequence, the bonding between the graduates and current students is said to be weak. The College of Life Sciences and Biotechnology established a mentoring program to overcome this defect.

“There were many alumni from the class of ’60 to ’90 at the event, so that was very exciting,” says Lee Jeong Min ('13, Biotechnology), who attended the event. “I got to hear a lot of things from the alumni from career and research to leading a good social life. I learned that there are diverse paths that I can take after graduating from Biotechnology.” The mentoring program had 95 mentors and 246 mentees attending.

Kim Ik Hwan, the Dean of the college, emphasized that the college shall prepare for another 60 years in which to continue the achievements of the past. The Dean also proposed goals to rank the college as one of the world’s top 10 life sciences colleges and introduced specific ways to reach this goal, such as founding ten world-renowned research centers.
