As Korea University (KU) students, how aware are you of your school surroundings? The KU Museum, with the help of Keumsan Art Gallery, is displaying the exhibition “同床異夢” (looking at the same scene but having different dreams). It consists of the work of “making photo” photographers in Korea. The “making photo” genre of photography refers to producing artwork by tampering and editing different shots to produce the final photograph, instead of using the shot as a whole as the final piece. Thus the works of the ten renowned making photo photographers on display all used “Korea University” as their subject matter, and combined an array of different photographs of the school’s emblem, architecture, and books to come up with their pieces of artwork on display.

By looking at pieces such as that of Im An Nah, who overlapped images of books in the KU library with traditional KU stone buildings, or Kim Jong Heon, who used KU’s emblematic color—crimson red—in a form that resembled a wave, or An Jun, who inserted the picture of an apple within a picture taken on campus so that the nondescript scene would seem strange, will most definitely make you look back at whether you were not taking the KU campus for granted. The making photos on display at the KU museum have the power of making the familiar everyday things we see on campus seem unfamiliar. Why not stop by and have a look when you have a bit of spare time?
