Korea University (KU) is offering graduate students English Mediated Instruction (EMI) Seminars in order to help them prepare to be part of a teaching faculty. From October to November, there will be courses held every Friday at the Central Plaza, room 123. These classes will be based on different themes to give students a well-rounded view on how to be a teacher. All the courses will last an hour and a half starting from two o’clock.

The lecture held on October 4 is called “Preparing for the teaching career” and will be based on teaching philosophy, teaching style and general knowledge about teaching techniques. The class will also cover how to deal with interviews for teaching jobs. Other lectures are called “Course and Lesson Planning,” “Teaching methods & strategies” and “Assessment and feedback in teaching” and these will cover diverse aspects of the career. Consisting of five lectures, this seminar has the intent of helping graduate students prepare for the job search process, which also include making teaching statements. In addition, the program will offer Myers-Briggs personality Type Inventory (MBTI) testing in order to analyze your personality that will influence your teaching style. 

Nowadays, many students are interested in having a teaching profession and these classes provide the perfect opportunity to get a glimpse of what an actual teaching career entails. These courses are free of charge, so even undergraduate students can also visit and get a preview.
