In late March, Korea University (KU) reported that it joined iTunes U, the world-wide online catalog that produces free educational contents from varied institutions including prestigious universities, libraries, and museums. Through the use of iTunes U, educators create courses and upload lectures, assignments, books, quizzes, and syllabi for iOS users in the world.

iTunes U enables KU to produce lectures from various educational fields including Humanities, Social Sciences, Nature Sciences, Engineering, and Korean Studies. In order to provide education with high quality for international students, iTunes U offers Korean Studies in collaboration with KU’s Korean Language and Culture Center, Research Institute of Korean Studies, and Korean Studies faculties.

Many lectures are lively video- taped, letting self-learners around the world take courses that have previously only been available to KU students. Educational collections and resources offered by the iTunes U application (app) are highly accessible to educators and students. With their iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, they are able to easily teach and take entire courses. The U app also grants lifelong learners a valuable chance to access everything they need to enrich their learning. The current statistics provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning shows that many people are easily visiting the page. Beginning from February 28, there have been 15,447 streaming, 13,797 downloads and 14,093 subscribes.

With its motto, “Creating and Sharing Knowledge with the World,” KU utilizes varied educational technologies to offer education for all learners around the world. The head of Teaching and Learning Center, Professor Lee Hikyoung (English Language and Literature), said, “It is a great opportunity for learners to easily access to a high level of education; iTunes U also grants KU a chance to contribute to society and at the same time to be widely recognized as a leader in pursuing education for all.”
