On March 22, Professor Ray Dolan presented a lecture namely as, “Neuroscience of Decision-Making,” from 3 P.M. at Korea University (KU) Centennial Memorial SAMSUNG Hall Conference Room. Often cognition is perceived as a human characteristic based upon people’s rational thought. Yet a worldwide recognized neuroscientist Ray Dolan (University College London) proved emotion, a subjective domain, influences cognitive behavior, which is part of an objective domain.

One of the most influential neuroscience psychology scholars and a head of Welcome Trust Center for Neroimaging, Professor Dolan explained how emotion influences cognition, using classical behavioral tools as well as neuroimaging methods. In other words, he has been investigating how mood-related emotions affect the behavior in making decisions.

Professor Dolan has been cited for at least 30,000 times by other scholars, and four of his best papers have been cited more than 1,000 times respectively. As a world renowned neuroscientist, Professor Dolan is distinguished as one of the most influential scientists in 21th century.

Professor Dolan’s collaborative lecture with KU Department of Psychology is a brilliant outcome of the effort put on last six years on Brain Korea (BK) 21 project. KU Department of Psychology is considered as the only domestic institution to conduct lively researches on cognitive-neuroscience. Professor Dolan’s lecture is believed to be the moment to increase concerns towards neuroscience among domestic science field.
