Korea University (KU) is holding an annual free medical examination for students from March 14th to March 20th at Central Square for Humanities campus and Hana Square for Nature science and Engineering campus. The health center offers their examination hours from 9 A.M to 4 P.M. but closes temporarily during lunch time from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M.  In the beginning of each year, KU offers students (including graduate students) an opportunity to examine their health at free of cost. KU Health center manager who also is the person in charge, Lee said, “It is a great opportunity for students to get their health checked in almost free of cost. It is unfortunate that not many students take advantage of the college.”

Each year, about 3,000 students use the free medical examination. This is only about one tenth of the total number of students. According to Park Seok Kyeong (’10 English Language Education) who works as a volunteer in the free medical examination, the medical examination is one way of preventing students from getting preventable diseases. “It is also one way of using your tuition wisely. The whole examination process takes about 20 minutes so it would be a beneficial for everyone to take a small part of their time to think about their body.”

Lee strongly encouraged students, especially seniors to get medically examined. “If you pay 9,000 won ($10), you can get thorough medical check-up including liver-function examination, diabetes mellitus test and lipid test. Students, especially seniors who would need to get their health checked up before they enter a company, should come and get it done in school.”
