On September 15, Korea University (KU) soccer team beated Yonsei University (YU) by 1-0 and delivered a stunning victory to KU students in the 2012 Annual Ko-Yon Games. KU and YU have evened the score by 2-2 as KU won two games—baseball and basketball— and lost two—ice hockey and rugby—before the soccer match. With the victory of soccer team, not only did KU win the overall championship but the soccer team also continued its winning streak, having four consecutive victories in the Annual Games. The captain of the team Jung Jae-Yong (’09, Physical Education, MF) said, “We could win this game because we have always had a strong desire to continue the winning streak.”

KU team had the control over the overall run of the game. You Jaewon (’09, Physical Education, MF) and Park Hee-Sung (’09, Physical Education, FW) made several scoring opportunities right after the match began and during the match. Jung Jae-Yong and Jung Seok-Hwa (’10, Sports and Leisure, MF) also stood out, making aggressive moves. However, neither scored in the first half of the game.

During the second half, YU led the game for a while, but KU soon took the control over game back and finally scored after 21 minutes of the second half. Ahn Jin-Beon (’11, Physical Education, MF) succeeded in making a goal out of the pass by Park Hee-Sung. Although the ball hit the hands of YU’s goalkeeper it could not stop the ball from going right into the net. YU tried to turn the game around by aggressive shootings, but KU’s goalkeeper Noh Dong-Gun (’10, Physical Education, GK) blocked all shots nicely.

After the victory, Jeon Min-Gwan (’09, Sports and Leisure, DF) said, “We had quite a hard time this year, because we lost many games. Thinking of the victory in the Annual Ko-Yon Games, we never gave up and trained very hard. I am very much satisfied with the result.”
