On August 17th, the 10th Korea-China International Academic Conference of Criminal Legislation has opened at Korea University's (KU) College of Law. This meeting, which convened for two full days, invited in 11 Chinese criminal jurists and executers along with Lu Jian Ping (College of Education, Beijing Normal University), the Vice-President of the Chinese Criminal Law Research Society. According to Ha Tae Hoon (Korea University Graduate School of Law), the President of the Korean Criminal Law Society, "This year's conference has been hosted to look back on the past 10 years of councils held between Korea and China and to explore improvements in further academic exchanges." He believed that this constant interchange of knowledge and experience based on criminal law theories will contribute to the progress of comparative law jurisprudence and criminal law.

After the opening speech of both Korea and China's representatives, Ha Tae Hoon and Lu Jian Ping, each of the Chinese participants were introduced one by one. Then, promptly along the time schedule given out to the participants, the first session on “The Evaluation and Reflection of Chinese Criminal Legislation since the Reform and Opening Up” came to a start. The time required for each session was approximately thirty minutes in a sequence of a lecture and a debate session. The conference organized in twelve main sessions addressed specific topics such as “The Comparative Study of the Property Crime System between China and Korea” and “The Reform Problems and Countermeasures of Chinese Juvenile Criminal Law.”

This conference itself was significant in that Korea and China are maintaining their consistent cooperation and partnership within the globalized world. As we can see in a global economic crisis, a single country’s state of economy can cause a ripple effect on other countries. Like this, crimes, especially cyber crimes can also bring a significant impact over the borders and onto the whole world in our globalized society. Therefore, the tight cooperation between Korea and China on the criminal law fields is seen as a positive influence on both nations.
